Aviation Medicine

Aviation Medicine

Aviation Medicine is part of the Military Medical Officer Programme.

The overall purpose of the course is to provide the fundamental prerequisites for the rescue procedures of the Navy and the Air Force, enabling the physician to function as a ship’s doctor and potentially as a SAR doctor. During the course, both Navy and Air Force units responsible for the instruction will be visited.

Much of the training takes place in or around water, and instruction is varied to avoid exhausting personnel.

Teaching is conducted through theory combined with a strong emphasis on practical training and exercises.

​Content:​

  • Theory and practical training on rescue vessels in the Navy
  • Theory and practical training on rescue equipment in the Air Force
  • Theory and practical training related to operations on, around, and inside Air Force helicopters (SeaHawk and EH-101)
  • Theory and practical training on squadron rescue and hoist procedures
  • Introduction to Squadrons 722 and 723 with a focus on their tasks and daily operations

Requirements:​

  • To participate in the course, the student must have a chest X-ray in order to be medically approved for aviation
  • The student must be medically, aeromedically (including dental), and diving-medically approved
  • To participate in HUET and HOIST, the student should be equipped with flight and SAR gear
  • To participate in HUET, REFA must be passed with a satisfactory result
  • To participate in HOIST, both REFA and HUET must be passed with a satisfactory result​
